Hi, my name is Jolene.  I am nine years old and I am a member of 4-H.

My mom is helping me keep track of my 4-H projects with this web site.

This is Page four of my Online Journal.

Put the gingerbread house together with mom's help.  I squeezed on the icing, while mom held the pieces together until they dried a bit.  Didn't take any pictures though.  Walls were sagging a bit, so used wooden coffee stirrers on the inside of the house to stiffen it a bit.  Attached them with the icing.  Roof also sagged a bit in the center.

Started decorating the house tonight.  Put all the windows and the door on.   Only a few more days left before the Westmoreland County Fair.

Did a little more decorating tonight.  Added a heart, candles in the windows, door mat and light posts.

A few more finishing touches.  More icing and M&M's around the light posts (they are top heavy and fell over last night before they dried completely).  Also added the flame to the candles in the windows.  And instead of a gingerbread man, made licorice man and woman.  Mom put in down in the bin and put on the lid, and it is ready to be transported to the fair tomorrow evening.

I also did my celery experiment tonight.  I am entering it in the fair, and will be writing up the card to go with it tomorrow.

I put red food coloring in one glass, blue food coloring in another, and plain water in the third.  Now I just have to let it sit awhile and write up the results.

Mom took today off, so that I could make my pies, and cut my flowers for the Westmoreland County Fair.

It was a busy day, and mom's digital camera batteries were recharging so she didn't take any pictures of me making the Pennsylvania Shoo-fly pie or the Peach pie.  She did take a picture of me by the bins after everything was packed and ready to go.

She intended to take pictures of how the individual pies and flower vases looked before we turned the stuff in at the fair, but forgot.

We went to the Westmoreland County Fair today.  We walked around a while, looked at all the animals and the many exhibits.  We checked out my entries in the 4-H building and found out that I got 3 first place ribbons, 1 second place ribbon and 1 third place ribbon.  I also have one blue merit ribbon, but I had received that when we turned the flowers in, and the judge looked at my vase and project book.  Mom forgot to bring her camera, but we are coming back on Thursday, so she will get some pictures then.

Today's meeting was the Alwine Community 4-H Club's yearly Roundup.

It was my first roundup so mom and I weren't sure what to expect.  Our leader had told us at the last meeting, that I was suppose to bring a samples of my project subject and my project books.

The day before the meeting, I baked blueberry muffins to take.  When I got home from school, I picked some of the same flowers I entered in the fair.  I had a few snapdragons and a few zinnias.

After roll call and the pledge our leader introduced the judges for the Roundup.   Then we had to find the table for the project subject we did, and stand in line to talk to the judge.

Once everyone had finished talking with the judges, the meeting ended.  The cooking judge had took one of my blueberry muffins, and I shared the rest with some of the members of my club.

Tonight was our Banquet.

Each family brought a certain thing to eat and drink.  Mom made green bean casserole (with cream of mushroom soup) and 2 bottles of pop.

Dad came with us this time, and we had a good time eating and talking with some of the other families.

After dinner, our leader gave our project books back, that we had left with the judge at the last meeting.  Everyone had to go up and get their book, and talk about what we liked about 4-H this past year and the projects we had done.

Tonight was one of our meetings.  After listening to the old and new business, one of the girls gave a presentation.

After that we started our activity for the evening - we started work on a club scrapbook.  My mom is going to be the leader for this project.  Each of us got a piece of paper and could decorate it however we wanted to.  Most of us put our names and ages and other things, using the stickers that were provided.

We also used gel pens or colored pencils to write down some information about ourselves.

One of our officers took everyone's individual picture with a digital camera.  So we needed to leave a 3 x 5 space for the picture.

Our next meeting is in December - however the date is tentative.

-

We missed the December meeting - Dad's vehicle broke down and we had to go rescue him.   By the time we remembered it was the night of the meeting - it was too late - the meeting was over.
